MITCHELL, SD. (NewsDakota.com) – The (RV) University of Jamestown women’s basketball team picked up its sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday night as the Jimmies defeated Dakota Wesleyan, 66-58.
Kia Tower’s hot shooting helped lead the Jimmies to a 23-12 lead over the Tigers in the opening quarter of play. Tower had 15 of the 23 points for Jamestown in the first quarter and led all scorers with 17 points at the half. UJ led 38-30 at the break behind 50% shooting from the field and going 5-for-11 from long range. The Jimmies won the battle on the glass in the first 20 minutes as well, finishing plus seven behind five boards for Hannah Hagel.
Both teams traded blows in the third quarter and the Jimmies took a 51-45 advantage into the final 10 minutes. Tower and her senior partner Hannah DeMars took control in the fourth quarter to get Jamestown its 13th conference win of the season.
Tower matched her career-high with 25 points while also grabbing four steals. DeMars ended the night with nine points. Off the bench, Hagel had eight points and six rebounds. Jailyn Martinson also finished with eight points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the floor. Jamestown held Dakota Wesleyan to 33% from the field.
UJ improves to 18-5 on the year and 13-4 in the GPAC. The 13 conference wins are the most for head coach Thad Sankey in his Jamestown tenure. The Jimmies still have five GPAC games remaining, including Saturday afternoon at 2:00 PM against Midland.
