JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Blue Jay boys hockey team exploded for eight goals, six on special teams, and doubled up Williston 8-4 in West Region play Saturday night at Wilson Arena.
Jamestown went shorthanded just 26 seconds into the game but responded with two shorthanded goals, one by Senior Gavin Gerhardt, his 10th of the season, and one by Junior Tyson Jorissen, his third of the season, and the Jays never looked back.
Williston leads the state in penalty minutes and that trend continued as Jamestown scored on four of its five power play chances.
Power play goals were scored by Gerhardt, his 11th goal of the season, Junior Owen Struble, his second of the year, Senior Jarrett Zalumskis his second of the season and Senior Ashton Stockert buried his third of the season.
Two even strength goals came from Senior Brooks Roaldson, his 13th of the season, and Senior Max Mehus, his sixth.
Senior Easton Romsdahl chipped in with three assists.
Jamestown outshot Williston 58-27 with Senior Goalie Andrew Walz coming up with 23 saves.
The Blue Jays improve to 8-6-1 overall and 7-5-1 in the West Region, and the victory moves the Jays into a fourth place tie in the conference with Mandan.
Next up is a home and home match up with Bismarck Century on Thursday and Friday February 2nd and 3rd.
The game Thursday night will be in the capital city and the game on Friday will be at Wilson Arena.
The Blue Jay girls lost at Williston Saturday 3-2 and ended up 0-2 on the road trip. Jamestown was defeated at Minot on Friday 6-0.
