JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – An 11-0 start for the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team set the tone early in the Jimmies 104-68 blowout win over Mount Marty.
The Jimmies jumped on Mount Marty from the start in each half, going up 21-6 in the opening nine minutes of play and using a 19-4 run to begin the second half. Jamestown poured it on from long range, going 19-35 from three (54%) and 38-64 from the field (59%).
Defensively is where Jamestown made its money throughout the course of the night. UJ held the Lancers to 25% shooting from deep and 47% from the floor. Cole Bowen and Tash Lunday each chipped in 15 points to lead the scoring for Mount Marty.
Mason Walters once again led the Jimmies with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Cole Woodford was nearly unstoppable from the floor, scoring 15 points on 5-6 shooting. Will Cordes finished in double figures with 13 points and Marc Kjos had 11 points on 4-5 shooting. Off the bench, Brooks Carroll had a new career-high eight points.
With the win tonight and a loss by Morningside, Jamestown is now tied for first place in the GPAC standings with a 10-3 conference record. The Jimmies are 18-3 overall and host Northwestern as part of a doubleheader on Saturday.
