CRETE, Neb.– The Jimmie women’s basketball team took a 13-point halftime lead and withheld Doane University’s second half comeback attempt, taking an 82-76 win over the Tigers Friday evening.

THE BASICS

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Jimmies led by eight points after a Sarah Lenz three-pointer made it 15-7 at 4:01 of the first.
  • Doane went on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to one with 48 seconds left in the quarter.
  • UJ shot 5-of-10 from three-point range and 8-of-16 overall.
  • Kia Tower led Jamestown with eight points in the first.
  • After the Tigers’ Rylie Rice knocked down a three to start the second quarter, cutting the lead to one, Jamestown scored 13 of the next 19 points.
  • Hannah DeMars made a layup to extend UJ’s lead to 34-26 at the 5:44 mark.
  • The Jimmies went ahead by double digits on a Kate Cordes three with 2:04 before the half, then DeMars made a three to push the lead to 13 on UJ’s next possession.
  • Doane outscored Jamestown 15-12 in the third quarter, holding the Jimmies to 5-of-14 shooting overall and just 1-of-7 on threes.
  • UJ outrebounded the Tigers 10-3 but turned the ball over six times to Doane’s three.
  • A 10-4 Doane run made it 67-61 Jimmies with 5:15 remaining in the game, and the Tigers got within 69-65 after a Macy Holtz layup at the 4:02 mark.
  • Jamestown saw its lead shrink to three with 23 seconds left, but Cordes made 3-of-4 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

JAMESTOWN GAME NOTES

  • Jamestown shot 47.7 percent (31-of-65) from the floor, including 34.4 percent (11-of-32) from three-point range.
  • DeMars led the Jimmies with 21 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, and five steals in her tenth double-double of the year.
  • Tower ended with 19 points and four assists, while Cordes was also in double figures with 12.
  • UJ outscored Doane 22-14 in points off turnovers and had a 25-6 advantage in bench scoring

DOANE GAME NOTES

  • Doane shots 47.5 percent (28-of-59) from the floor, including 22.2 percent (4-of-18) from three-point range.
  • Mak Hatcliff led the Tigers with 25 points while Holtz added 24. Rice was also in double figures with 11.
  • Libby Trausch grabbed a team-high six rebounds.
