MAYVILLE, ND (NewsDakota.com)  Two first-place teams were waiting for the Vikings in Mayville Saturday to complete the first time around in conference play.

The Vikings couldn’t make a dent in the Comets solid season.

A high-octane Mayville State offense ran past the Viking women, while a late surge reversed a 10-point Viking advantage in mens play, with the Comets taking a 91-54 win in the women’s matchup and an 84-72 decision in men’s play.

Mayville State’s women scored 53 first half points and had the Vikings chasing a big hole early.  The lead stretched to as many as 39 late, with five Comets scoring in double figures.

Ashlyn Diemert logged a solid weekend, leading the Vikings with 15 on Saturday after pacing the offense with 22 at Presentation College Friday night.

The Viking men opened up a 42-32 lead early in the second half, and had momentum, but lost an edge in outside shooting, a factor that would catch up with them as the Comets reversed the momentum in the second half.

Valley City State shot 4-31 from the three-point line for the game after hitting nine triples at Presentation Friday night.  Daevonte Munson led the Vikings with 22 points against the Comets.

Both teams face Mayville State again on Friday, as the teams completed their first circuit through North Star Athletic Association play Saturday night, and will now face the league in reverse order to finish the regular season.  The women are now 4-3 in the league, with the men 3-4, and both fighting for position in the top four seeds.
