JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The No. 14 University of Jamestown men’s basketball team extended its win streak to three on Saturday afternoon at Newman Arena with a 69-64 victory over Concordia (NE).
The Jimmies dominated throughout the first half, taking a 17-point lead into the break. UJ hit the outside shot with consistency early on and Mason Walters’ inside presence led the Jimmies to a nice lead at the half.
Jamestown held a lead as large as 19 with 8:45 to play before Concordia started to bring full-court pressure, causing issues for the Jimmies. The Bulldogs cut the Jamestown lead from 19 all the way down to four, but a late stop helped UJ get out of Newman with a big conference win.
Mason Walters and Cole Woodford each paced Jamestown with 18 points. Walters collected 11 rebounds for his 63rd career double-double. Woodford’s 18 points came 4-of-8 shooting from long range and a 4-for-4 mark at the free throw line. UJ shot just under 31% from deep and went 13-17 at the line. Both teams shot better than 40% from the field, and Gage Smith for Concordia had a game-high 19 points.
The Jimmies improve to 15-3 on the year with the victory, jumping to 7-3 in the GPAC. Jamestown still trails Morningside for the top spot in the conference, but the Jimmies still see the Mustangs twice this season. UJ travels to Nebraska to face Doane/Hastings next Friday and Saturday.
