JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the first time since joining the Great Plains Athletic Conference, the (RV) University of Jamestown women’s basketball team has swept its season series with Concordia (NE). Jamestown defeated the Bulldogs 79-72 at Newman Arena on Saturday afternoon.

Outside shooting and dealing with the Bulldogs’ defensive pressure were vital for the Jimmies to get the victory. UJ outscored Concordia 25-15 in the second quarter, connecting seven threes in the first half. Hannah DeMars nearly had a double-double at the break, picking up nine rebounds and 15 points.

Jamestown still held a nine-point lead heading into the fourth quarter. Concordia’s pressure caused some issues for the Jimmies in the fourth, and the Bulldogs got to within five points in the final minute of the game. Late free throws from DeMars and Kate Cordes, as well as mistake free basketball down the stretch helped the Jimmies snap a three-game losing streak.

DeMars finished with a double-double, posing a career-high 17 rebounds to go along with a game-high 25 points. Kia Tower put up 17 points and Cordes added 10. UJ went 13-30 from long range and shot 45% from the field. Jamestown improves to 13-5 on the year, 8-4 in the GPAC. The Jimmies travel to Nebraska next Friday and Saturday to take on Doane/Hastings.
