OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes saw some basketball action over the weekend with the girls picking up their 6th straight win while the boys fought hard but ultimately could not overcome the #2 team in South Dakota.
Boys Basketball: Tornadoes 49 @ #2 Aberdeen Christian, SD 52
The boys came up just short against Aberdeen Christian in what was a very tight game. The Tornadoes were able to keep up with the #2 team in South Dakota and even held the lead for a good portion of the second half.
Sadly they would be unable to hold onto the lead falling in heartbreaking fashion to Aberdeen.
Xavier Vossler and Adler Paeper led the Tornadoes with 16 points each as the team continued to expand its offensive prowess.

Girls Basketball: Tornadoes 58 @ Napoleon-GS 44
The game started exceptionally slow with many turnovers in the 1st quarter and not many shots being taken by the Tornadoes. The score would be 8-6 in favor of Oakes going into the the 2nd quarter of play.
Each team would pick it up then, especially the Imperials who would nail 4 three’s in the quarter. The Tornadoes would retain the lead being led by Emma Muggli who had 6 points in the quarter and Laikyn Roney who had 9 in the half. The score would be 26-25 at the half.
The 3rd quarter saw a more methodical game with not as many points being scoring and a lot of back and forth play. The score would be 38-36 in favor of the Tornadoes going into the final frame.
The 4th saw the Tornadoes come alive. They would outscore the Imperials 20-8 in the quarter only allowing 7 shots in the quarter of which 3 would fall. They went 9/17 in the quarter to cruise to a58-44 final.
The Tornadoes were led in scoring by Roney who went 6/14 from the field, 6/6 from the charity stripe, and had a three to her name for a total of 19 points. She was named the Bank North Player of the Game.
