The Jamestown High School boys hockey team, boys and girls wrestling, and gymnastics all were in action for the first full weekend of winter sports in 2023.
BOYS HOCKEY: JAMESTOWN 3, DICKINSON 2 (OT)
The Blue Jays rallied from a 2-0 deficit on Saturday afternoon in Dickinson to defeat the Midgets in overtime. Gavin Gerhardt scored at the tail end of the second period to make it 2-1 heading into the third. Gerhardt’s goal, his eighth of the year, was assisted by Ashton Stockert. Gerhardt would score again in the third period, this time unassisted, for his ninth goal of the season. The goal came at 16:44 in the third. Sophomore Nate Walz buried the game winner for Jamestown in overtime, pushing Jamestown to a 4-3-1-0 WDA record. Jamestown travels to Mandan on Tuesday night with full coverage on Q101 and here.
WRESTLING: BOYS TAKE 10TH, GIRLS 11TH AT BISMARCK ROTARY
Jackson Walters, Colton Mewes, and Hannah Sjostrom headlined top performances for the Blue Jay wrestling team this weekend in Bismarck. Walters picked up the victory at 182, going 5-0. Mewes finished second at 170 with a 4-1 record and Sjostrom was 2nd at 190 with a 3-1 mark. Jamestown hosts Dickinson on Thursday night at 7:00 PM. GYMNASTICS: JAMESTOWN SECOND AT KC INVITE
The Blue Jays took second out of five teams at the Knights of Columbus Invite on Friday. Julia Skari was the overall champion with an all-around score of 35.650. Skari was the champion on the balance beam (9.250) and floor (9.450). Allysah Larson’s total score of 32.775 was sixth overall and Emma Hillerud took eighth with a score of 32.525. Team totals 1.
