VALLEY CITY, ND  (Submitted by Viper Hockey)  After a three week break the Valley City Vipers squirts got back to action last weekend picking up a pair of wins vs. the Bismarck Capitals A Red on Saturday before dropping a game to West Fargo Stampede A Blue on Sunday.

In game one Saturday, after a scoreless first period, Bismarck would take a 1-0 lead four minutes into the second.  Valley City’s Brody Metcalf’s first goal of the season would be a big one as he would square things up four minutes later (assist Kayson Ziemba).

There would be no more scoring in regulation and they would head to overtime 1-1.  Three minutes into the sudden death extra period Gray Kasowski would put away the game winner (assist Brody Kalbrener) for the 2-1 final.  Goalie Tyler Olsen would turn away 24 of 25 shots on goal.  Valley City forced 30 SOG.

The Vipers offense would pick up in the afternoon game and the line of Kalbrener (2G, 1A), G. Kasowski (1G, 2A) and Riggs Kasowski (2G, 2A) would combine for five goals.  Ziemba would also notch two goals.  Metcalf, along with defensemen Beck Dietrich and Riley Roelfsema would get credited with assists in the 7-5 victory.  Olsen would collect 16 saves and the Vipers would force 32 SOG.

For the first time all season the Vipers would be shoutout by West Fargo Sunday afternoon and fall 0-3.  Olsen was able to keep them in the game turning away 19 of 22 SOG.

The Vipers are now 9-4 on the season and will head to Warroad next weekend for the Hometown Hockey tournament.
