SIOUX CENTER, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – Junior Will Cordes of the University of Jamestown men’s basketball team put up a career-high 35 points as the #9 Jimmies outlasted (RV) Dordt, 93-90.

Dordt and Jamestown went shot-for-shot in the first half of play with both teams shooting over 55% from the field. UJ entered the half up 52-47 despite the Defenders scoring 66% of their shots in the first 20 minutes.

The second half was full of knockout blows on both sides as Dordt took its first lead with less than six minutes remaining. Cordes continued to light up the scoreboard, making his first seven three-point shots. With under four minutes to play, senior Mason Walters fouled out with 11 points and four rebounds. The Jimmies turned to Cooper Olson, who connected on a huge pair of free throws to keep Jamestown ahead.

Down the stretch, it was Cordes at the free throw line who put the game on ice. Dordt got one final look at the buzzer, but Bryce Coppock’s shot fell short, snapping a nine-game winning streak for the Defenders.

Cordes’ 35 points came on 12-17 shooting, including 7-9 from deep and 4-4 at the free throw line. Marc Kjos added 14 points and Reid Gastner had 13. All five Jimmie starters ended the game in double figures, including Cole Woodford with 11. UJ shot 51% from the floor, 44% from deep, and 88% at the line.

Jamestown, now 13-3 on the year and 5-3 in the conference standings, returns to Newman Arena on Wednesday night to take on Briar Cliff. Game time is slated for 7:45 PM following the women’s game.
