ORANGE CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team had its six-game winning streak snapped on Friday night on the road as the Jimmies fell 72-51 to Northwestern.
It was a tightly contested first half of play as the Jimmies entered the locker room trailing 32-25. Kia Tower and Kate Coredes accounted for 16 of the 25 first half points. Northwestern capitalized at the free throw line in the first two quarters, going 12-14 for 86%.
In the second half, Jamestown failed to knock down a three on nine attempts as the Red Raiders pulled away in the late stages of the third quarter and early into the fourth. Northwestern held the Jimmies to 19% shooting from deep and 31% from the floor.
Kia Tower ended the night with a team-high 19 points, finishing as the only Jimmie to reach double figures. Northwestern had three players reach 10 points, including Molly Schany who had a game-high 20. The Red Raiders shot 46% from the field and 88% from the free throw line.
With the loss, Jamestown now holds a 12-3 overall record, sitting at 7-2 in the GPAC. The Jimmies travel to Sioux Center on Saturday afternoon to face #5 Dordt (15-0, 9-0). Tip-off is scheduled for 2:00 PM with full coverage on Q101.1 FM and newsdakota.com.
