FARGO, N.D. (NDHP) – The North Dakota Highway Patrol said the driver of a Chevrolet Malibu traveling south on I-29 in the left lane observed a pedestrian standing in the left lane. The driver braked and steered left, but struck the pedestrian. The vehicle entered the median and became stuck in the snow.

After being struck by the Chevrolet, the pedestrian was thrown and came to rest across the right lane. The pedestrian, identified as 19-year-old Destinee Tuttle of Santee, NE was pronounced dead on scene. The driver of the car, 20-year-old Gabriel Schroeder and his passenger were not injured.

The south bound lanes of I-29 from mm 54 to 50 were closed for approximately three hours due to the fatal crash on Sunday, January 1st around 5:47am. The crash remains under investigation by the North Dakota Highway Patrol.
