Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington girls basketball team trailed 28-22 with 5 minutes to play in the third quarter. The next 11:30 of the game had the Cardinals of Carrington go on a 19-0 run that put the game away with a 41-28 lead with 1:30 to play in the fourth quarter. Cora Badding (6′ 1 Jr.) finally ended the drought for Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich (LAEM) with a 3-pointer but it was too late for the visiting Cardinals to mount a comeback with only 90 seconds to play. A defensive battle from the start for both teams coming out of the Christmas break had LAEM leading 22-20 at halftime. LAEM would start the third quarter on a 6-2 spurt to lead 28-22 when Carrington went on the big run to put the game away, 41-34. Both teams had their share of turnovers but LAEM had 14 of their 24 in the second half, whereas Carrington committed just 7 second half turnovers (18 overall). LAEM 14 second half miscues aided the Carrington 19-0 run. Carrington was paced by Madison Johnson with 11 points, Kacie Rexin added 9 points off the bench as Carrington had a 15-0 advantage off the bench. Edyn Hoornaert (7 points) and Haley Wolsky (6 points) aided the Carrington win.
LAEM was paced by Jaya Henderson with a game high 12 points, Halle Jabs added 9 points (3-3 pointers), and Meredith Romfo finished with 8 points. LAEM dropped to 3-3 overall and Carrington (ranked 9th in the latest class B girls poll) improved to 7-0.
