OAKES, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes boys and girls basketball teams saw action on Tuesday, December 20th but came up with differing results. The boys travelled down to Lidgerwood where they would fall to the Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds by a score of 47-36. The girls, meanwhile would travel to Wishek to take on the South Border Mustangs where they would take a dominant 66-37 victory.
BOYS BASKETBALL:
Wyndmere-Lidgerwood Warbirds 47 – Oakes Tornadoes 36
The Tornadoes came out strong against the Warbirds being led by Xavier Vossler in the first quarter to a slim 14-10 lead. They would expand on that lead for half of the second quarter before the Warbirds fought to take a 24-22 lead into the half.
The Tornadoes lost a lot of momentum and were unable to gain it back in the 3rd quarter tallying only 4 points in the quarter. While the lead continued to grew.
They would fight back in the 4th quarter but the Warbirds were able to do just enough to hold onto their lead with Adam Baldwin nailing down 5 3-pointers on the night.
The Tornadoes fall to a record of 0-4 as they begin district play against Barnes County North on Thursday, coverage on KDDR The Tornado begins at 6:45 from BCN.
Girls Basketball:
Oakes Tornadoes 66 – South Boarder Broncos 37
The Tornadoes started out rough against their Regional rivals in the Broncos. After a bit of play and shaking the rust of 10-days of no games off they got rolling.
Laikyn Roney ended the night with 15 points and Ann Muggli had 11. The entire team was rebounding well and that allowed them to control the game and scoring.
They next take on Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter on Thursday December 22nd in Napoleon.
