Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—–The Carrington girls basketball team picked up a 48-44 win over a scrappy Four Winds-Minnewaukan (FWM) team and remains unbeaten at 6-0. The Cardinals built several double digit leads in the second half but the Lady Indians kept fighting back but couldn’t quite get all the way back as the Cardinals prevailed down the stretch. Both teams struggled offensively most of the night and 32 fouls combined along with 36 combined turnovers didn’t allow a good offensive flow for either side.

Madison Johnson had the moist offensive success for the Cardinals leading the way with a game high 17 points, included 11 second quarter points. Johnson also went 6 of 7 from the free throw line. The Cards trailed 9-6 after the opening quarter but outscored FWM 21-10 in the second quarter for a 27-19 halftime lead. The Cardinals largest lead was 33-21 in the opening minutes of the third quarter. The Cards held a double digit lead for most of the second half, but FWM would end the game on a 9-2 run after trailing 46-35 to come up a bit short at 48-44. The Cards Edyn Hoornaert added 9 points. FWM was paced by Makeisha Cavanaugh and Lanehya Malnourie with 11 points each and Hannah Fassett with 10 points. FWM dropped to 2-4 overall and the Cards improved to 6-0. Carrington will host Langdon Area-Edmore-Munich next week Wednesday with the game being aired on AM 1600 KDAK (THE CARDINAL), FM 100.1, and www.newsdakota.com
