Carrington, N.D. (NewsDakota.com)—-The Carrington girls basketball team forced Benson County into 34 turnovers and rolled to a 64-13 victory. The Cardinals put 9 of there 10 players in the scoring column and the top 2 scorers were Kacie Rexin with 13 points and Olivia Threadgold with 10 points. Rexin and Threadgold, are two of the top reserves for thr Cardinals. Rexin sparked a 19-0 Cardinal second quarter with 3-three pointers. Madison Johnson added 9 points, Haley Wolsky (8), Isabel Wendel (7), Brynn Smith and Edyn Hoornaert (6), Kenadie Pazdernik (3), and Emma Hone (2) accounted for the well balanced scoring. Benson County was led by Aubrey Kenner with 6 points. The Wildcats, who made the Region 4 semifinals last year but graduated 7 seniors started 3 freshman, 1 eighth grader, and 1 senior.

The Cardinals led 13-5 after the opening quarter before blanking the Wildcats 19-0 in the second quarter and also had a 21-3 advantage in the third quarter to tale a commanding 53-8 lead into the final quarter. The Wildcats dropped to 2-3 overall and Carrington improved to 5-0 and will host Four Winds-Minnewaukan on Monday night at 7:30. The Carrington boys followed the girls recipe for success with 2 big middle quarters, outscoring Benson County 40-18 in the second and third quarters. The Cardinals led 20-14 after the opening frame before building a 60-32 lead after three quarters. Paxton Neppl of Benson County banked in a half court shot at the end of the third quarter to cut the lead from 31 down to 28. Neppl, a sophomore finished with points.

The Cardinals were paced by senior Hudson Schmitz with a game high 27 points including 10 in the opening quarter with a pair of three pointers.  Jack Erickson added 14 points, Josh Bickett (12), and Grady Shipman (10), and McCoy Beckley with 7. Lane Benson led the Wildcats with 13 points and Logan Fossen added 7 points. The Wildcats dropped to 0-2 overall and the Cardinals improved to 2-0.
