JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The Carrington Cardinals claimed the top spot in the girls Stutsman County basketball tournament on Saturday evening at the Jamestown Civic Center. Here are your full results from day three.
CHAMPIONSHIP: Carrington 71 Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 57
The Cardinals of Carrington upset the number six rated Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier in the championship game on Saturday night. EKM was the defending champs and previously undefeated. The game was close for the most part, Carrington kept pulling away and the Rebels would come back. The Cardinals shot well in the fourth quarter to pull away for good, they ended up shooting 50% from the field for the game, EKM 40%. There was 10 lead changes and seven ties in the contest. The Cardinals had four players in double figures, Madison Johnson with 16, Olivia Threadgold 12, Kaydence VanRay 11 and Isabel Wendel 10. EKM was led by Mataeya Mathern with 20 points, eight rebound and seven steals. Carrington is now 4-0, EKM drops to 3-1.
THIRD PLACE: Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 50 Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 33
The Imperials never trailed as they roll past the Thunder of MPB by 17 points. Junior Teagan Erbele for the Imperials, had her second double-double of the tourney, 21 points and 13 rebounds. She was one rebound away from a double-double in yesterdays semifinal contest. Senior Sophie Bohl led MPB with eight points. NGS is now 5-3 overall, MPB drops to 3-2 overall.
CONSOLATION CHAMPIONSHIP: Ellendale 48 South Border 41
Emily Jochim recorded a double-double for the Mustangs with 25 points and 17 rebounds, but it was Ellendale who pulled out the consolation title. Junior Kali Norton scored 18 points for Ellendale and Christena Walker finished in double figures with 14 points. The Cardinals improve to 2-3 on the season while South Border drops to 2-3.
SEVENTH PLACE: WARWICK 55, GRIGGS-MIDKOTA 54
Madison Cavanaugh scored 30 points for the Warriors as Warwick won the seventh place game over the Titans. Griggs-Midkota had an 11 point lead in the fourth quarter before Warwick stormed back to take the lead late. A free throw from Chaynne Touche gave Warwick a 55-51 lead with six seconds to go before Lauryn Halvorson hit a buzzer-beating three to bring it back to one on the final horn. Kaylee Johnson led the Titans with 16 points. Warwick improves to 3-3 while Griggs-Midkota drops to 0-5 on the season.
