JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – Day two of the Stutsman County Tournament wrapped up on Friday night at the Jamestown Civic Center. Here are your results from the consolation and championship brackets:
ELLENDALE 63, WARWICK 49
It was a back-and-forth battle in the opening game of day two of the Stutsman County Tournament. Warwick stuck in the game, trailing only 37-28. Warwick brought the score back within two points in the fourth quarter before the Cardinals went on a 9-0 run to put the game out of reach. Olivia Hagen finished with a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Christena Walker had 16 points and six rebounds and Sierra Bollinger tallied 10 points for Ellendale. Madison Cavanaugh for Warwick led all scorers with 21 points. The Warriors drop to 2-3 while Ellendale gets its first win of the year, improving to 1-3.
SOUTH BORDER 53, GRIGGS-MIDKOTA 51
Despite trailing by eight points at the half, the Mustangs were able to come from behind, using a 23-9 third quarter, to move back to .500 on the season. Macy Monson, Emily Jochim, and Eva Meyer all finished in double figures for South Border, with Monson and Jochim recording double-doubles. Vanessa Vollmer led the Titans in scoring with 14 points. South Border moves to 2-2 on the season while Griggs-Midkota drops to 0-4.
EKM 70 NAPOLEON-GACKLE-STREETER 50
The Number six rated and defending Stutsman Champs the Rebels of Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier had only a two point lead at the end of the first quarter, but poured in 24 points in the second quarter to take the lead 42-28 at the break over the Imperials of NGS. Mataeya Mathern, Reagan Teske and Elli Lloyd helped spark the second quarter to gain the momentum heading into halftime. Mathern led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and four steals, Kiara Jangula added 14 points and eight assists, Libby Mathern had 13 points. NGS was led by Teagan Erbele with 20 points and nine rebounds, Sophie Ketterling had 13. EKM improves to 3-0 overall, NGS drops to 4-3 overall.
CARRINGTON 60 MPB 33
The Cardinals outscored Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 16-8 in the second quarter to help them take the lead into halftime 25-16. They also came out hot in the second half outscoring MPB 35-17 and get the 27 point victory over the Thunder and will now move into the championship on Saturday night. Madi Johnson led Carrington with 15 points, Edyn Hoornaert had 13 and Isabel Wendel 10. The Cardinals shot 46% from the field 27/58, the Thunder just 27%. MPB was led by Allison Thomas with 10. Carrington is now 3-0, MPB drops to 3-1.
