JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The opening day of the 2022 Stutsman County Girls’ Basketball Tournament was held on Thursday at the Civic Center with four games, both one seeds and two seeds win, here are the results:

Edgeley/Kulm/Montpelier 79  Warwick 17

The defending Stutsman champs and No. 6 in the state, the Rebels of EKM had no problem with the Warriors of Warwick in the first game of the day. The Rebels jumped out to an early 14-0 lead and continued to capitalize on Warwick’s 43 total turnovers and cruise to the 62 point victory. EKM had three players in double figures, Kiara Jangula led the way with 20 points and five steals, Mataeya Mathern added 13 points and six steals and Elli Lloyd came off the bench and scored 10. The Rebels had a total of 30 steals and improve to 2-0 on the season. Warwick was led by Bethany Brown with seven points, they drop to 2-2 overall.

Napoleon/Gackle-Streeter 42  Ellendale 28

For the second time this season, the NGS Imperials defeated the Ellendale Cardinals. Now the Imperials will advance to the semifinal Friday night against EKM. There were two early ties, but the Imperials played some really good defense, stealing the ball a total of 19 times to help secure the victory. The first time they met was November 29th in Napoleon and they won by four points. Junior and four year starter, Teagan Erbele for the Imperials had a double-double, 19 points and 15 rebounds. Ellendale was led by Olivia Hagen with 10. NGS improves to 4-2 overall, the Cardinals drop to 0-3 overall.

Medina/Pingree/Buchanan 53  Griggs/Midkota 29

After a couple of ties and lead changes early, the number one seed from District 6 rolled to a 24 point victory over the Titans of Griggs/Midkota in the third game of the day. MPB beat them on December 1st in Glenfield as well. The Thunder of MPB hit six treys, including three from Allison Thomas, she ended with 21 points and seven steals. Maddie Gefroh added 12 points. GM was led by Ryan Johnson with 16. MPB is now 3-0 overall, GM drops to 0-3 overall.

Carrington 57  South Border 17

South Border led for a brief moment early on in the first quarter, but Carrington went on a 19-2 run and never looked back. The Cardinals pulled down a total of 54 rebounds and had 29 steals, but kind of a cold shooting night, only 29% from the field (21/72) and 17% from beyond the arch (4/23). Carrington had two players with double digits in points and two other players with double digit rebounds, Madison Johnson dropped in 13 points, Kaydence VanRay added 10. Edyn Hoornaert and Isabel Wendel had 12 rebounds each. The Cardinals had 29 points from the their bench, SB none. Carrington is now 2-0, SB drops to 1-2.
