Kindred, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Oakes Tornadoes began their girls basketball season on Tuesday night but came up just short against the #3 Kindred Vikings. The final score was 56-51.

The Tornadoes started off hot with a 5-0 lead however a back and forth struggle would ensue for the rest of the half before it ended with the Tornadoes leading the Vikings by a score of 26-24.

The second half started with the Vikings gaining all of the momentum. They would force several big turnovers which would end up being the difference maker. They would run the score up to 45-27 at one point before being stopped.

The Tornadoes would begin to claw back in the 4th quarter but Kindred did just enough to stave off the full comeback and win by a score of 56-51.

Turnovers were the big difference with the Tornadoes having an unofficial 29 turnovers. Laikyn Roney lead both teams in scoring with 21 points, 7 steals, and 9 rebounds (5 defensive /4offensive). She was named the Bank North Player of the Game.

The Tornadoes now take on Langford, SD on Thursday in Langford.
