SIOUX CITY, IA. (NewsDakota.com) – For the fourth consecutive season, the University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team will play in the NAIA National Semifinals as the #2 Jimmies dominated #16 Columbia College in straight sets (25-10, 25-18, 25-17) on Saturday night.
The Jimmies were firing on all cylinders from the start as UJ dominated on the block in the opening set, picking up nine total blocks in a blowout first set. The second set was more tightly contested, but Jamestown fifth-year senior Anna Holen brought out her best game as the Jimmies went on a 4-0 run in the middle of set two go ahead 2-0.
In the third set, Columbia led 14-10 before UJ went on a 15-3 run the rest of the way to take care of the Cougars and punch its ticket to the National Semifinals.
Holen’s 18 kills were a match-high as the LaMoure native also hit .485 to lead Jamestown. Lexi Olson had nine kills on 18 attacks with just one error and Logan Sherman tallied seven kills. Anna Holen had 11 digs for a double-double while her sister Ellie’s 20 digs were a match-high. Kalli Hegerle led all setters with 24 assists and Paige Oswald added 13.
UJ hit above .355 in sets one and two and totaled a .307 attack percentage for the match. Columbia College hit just .067 and the Jimmies’ 12 total blocks were nine more than the Cougars. Jamestown had four aces from the service line.
UJ has now won 16 consecutive matches, improving to 35-2. The Jimmies face off against GPAC foe Midland for a spot in the Battle for the Red Banner. First serve in the National Semifinals for the Jimmies will take place at 8:00 PM CT on Monday night from the Tyson Events Center.
