VELVA, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) The Cardinals started on an early 6-0 lead and never trailed as they defeat the Aggies of Velva Tuesday night 49-31 in Class B Girls non-region basketball action. Carrington is 1-0 overall, Velva is 0-1 overall.

Both teams committed turnovers and were kind of shaky early on in both teams first game of the year, but Carrington hit six three’s and some free throws to help them with the win. Sophomore Edyn Hoornaert led all scorers with 14, including two 3-pointers. Senior Haley Wolsky dropped in 10, and hit two treys as well. Senior Olivia Passa led Velva with 10, including seven points from the charity stripe.

Carrington will play in the Stutsman County Girls Basketball tourney on Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Jamestown Civic Center on December 8, 9 & 10. Thunder Country 98.3 and newsdakota.com will broadcast the entire tourney. Bracket and pairings will be released early next week.
