KINGSPORT, TN. (NewsDakota.com) – The #5 University of Jamestown men’s basketball team capped off its road trip with another victory as the Jimmies pulled out another gritty win, 74-66 over #15 William Jessup.
After Jessup scored the opening bucket, Jamestown would jump out to a 21-6 advantage in the middle of the first half to take control of the game. Jessup battled back to bring the game within eight points at the break with UJ in front 35-27.
In the second half, the Warriors were able to get the Jamestown lead down to four points but the Jimmies never allowed Jessup to regain control in another game where UJ led for 39 minutes of game time. Cole Woodford’s stout defense on All-American Cash Williams for Jessup helped Jamestown hold Williams to just seven points, five of which came from the free throw line.
Mason Walters led Jamestown with 32 points and seven rebounds. Walters sits at 1,999 career points and 999 rebounds in his career. No Jimmie has eclipsed either 2,000 points or 1,000 rebounds. Woodford had 15 points with three made three’s and Will Cordes added 11 for Jamestown.
UJ improves to 7-1 on the year, going 4-0 over the last nine days in Tennessee and Nebraska. The Jimmies return to GPAC play on Friday night at Newman Arena against Hastings College. Tipoff is scheduled for 6:45 PM following the women’s game.
