FREMONT, Neb. (jimmiepride.com)– Reid Gastner (SO/Lake City, MN) and Mason Walters (SR/Jamestown, ND) both recorded double-doubles and the fifth-ranked University of Jamestown men’s basketball team shot 56 percent from the floor in a 104-72 win over Midland University Saturday evening.
Jamestown improves to 4-1 overall and 1-1 in the GPAC while Midland falls to 4-4 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Walters (16), Gastner (15), and Will Cordes (JR/Shakopee, MN) (12) combined for 43 of UJ’s 56 first-half points and shot a combined 15-of-23 overall (6-of-10 from three-point range).
Midland led 6-5 just under two minutes into the game, but Jamestown went ahead 23-12 after a Cordes three-pointer at the 11:29 mark. The Warriors would get within nine points before UJ went on a 17-6 run to lead 56-36 with 1:14 before the half.
The second half started with the Jimmies scoring 12 of the first 14 points, and Gastner’s three made it 68-40 3:24 into the half. UJ hit on only 3-of-14 three-point attempts in the final twenty minutes, but made 15 of 19 shots inside the arc.
Cordes finished with 18 points and was joined in double figures by Marc Kjos (SR/Lake City, MN) and Colby Vazquez (JR/Millbrae, CA) with 10 points each. Cole Woodford (JR/Redwood Falls, MN) had seven points and six assists.
Jamestown had a 45-30 rebounding advantage as well as a 28-17 edge in points off turnovers as well as points in the paint (38-18).
