BISMARCK, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The hopes for a state title for the Blue Jay volleyball team came to a close on Friday night as Jamestown fell in straight sets to West Fargo Sheyenne in the Class A semifinals. Set scores were 25-18, 25-16, and 25-18.

Sheyenne was firing from start to finish, committing only four errors at controlling the match from start to finish. The Blue Jays rallied after trailing 10-1 in the first set to within five before Sheyenne called timeout to reset and get the win in the opening frame.

The Mustangs were in front for most of set two but Jamestown had the first punch in the third set, leading 8-3 early. Sheyenne would recover down the stretch, capitalizing on Blue Jay mistakes and not making any of their own to get the straight-set victory.

Jamestown’s Bernadette Newman led the team with nine kills and Makenna Nold had seven. Nold and Edie Hegerle each had 10 assists and Aspyn Peterson lead the Blue Jay defensive specialists with 11 digs.

With the loss, Jamestown (32-7) now takes on Legacy in the third-place match for Class A. First serve is set for 4:00 PM from the Bismarck Event Center with coverage on Jamestown 107.1/1400, online at newsdakota.com, or on the Jamestown 107.1 app.
