JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s basketball picked up a key victory in the early season on Wednesday night as the Jimmies outlasted #7 Dakota Wesleyan in a 71-64 win.
The first half was tightly contested with Hannah DeMars and Jada Campbell leading the charge for their respective teams during the first two quarters of play. The Jimmie offense found fire from long range during the third quarter, scoring 26 points to take a lead into the fourth.
Jamestown stayed composed during the fourth quarter and freshman Kate Cordes hit a couple of big threes to help the Jimmies stay in front of the #7 Tigers. Down the stretch, Jamestown converted at the free throw line, finishing 13-13 on the night, to pick up a top-10 victory.
DeMars led the Jimmies with 32 points and six rebounds, going 13-24 from the floor. Cordes ended the night as the only other Jimmie in double figures with 16. Sarah Lenz finished with nine points and Kia Tower had eight. Jamestown shot 42% from the field and 33% from three-point range. Dakota Wesleyan went 0-6 from deep.
With the win, UJ improves to 4-1 on the year and 2-0 in the GPAC. The Jimmies travel to Nebraska to face Midland on Saturday before taking on Concordia (NE) next Tuesday.
