JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Jamestown Sanitation Foreman Shawn O’Niell is reminding the public to not use their garbage to dispose of Lithium-ion batteries.
O’Niell informed the Jamestown Public Works Committee Thursday that in the past few months, there have been problems at the City Baler due to improper disposal.
Common items that contain lithium batteries includes cell phones, laptops, tablets, digital cameras, and more.
O’Niell says if residents wish to dispose of these, they need to take them to the Jamestown Recycle Center.
O’Niell says the cause was a big lithium battery, more than likely from a business.
He says improper disposal of the batteries could be a safety concern for his staff and the public.
Residents are reminded that lithium batteries cannot be discarded in both the recycle bins or garbage bins. You must take them to the Recycle Center for proper disposal.
