It is with great sadness and heavy hearts we announce the passing of our Dad, Lowell
Komrosky, on November 5, 2022, at the Veteran’s Hospital, Fargo, ND.
Lowell Burton Komrosky was born January 20, 1934, to Harry and Florence Komrosky on a farm near Sanborn, ND. He grew up and attended school in the Sanborn area. In 1950 he moved to Los Angeles, CA where he attended the National College for Machinist. He joined the Army in 1951 and fought in the Korean War. Dad was very proud of his service to our country and his Purple Heart.
June 4, 1956, Lowell married Janice Nygaard. They lived in California for a while where he was
a machinist before they returned to North Dakota. They settled in the Tower City area where
they raised their 4 children. Three of their nephews, Rick, Mark, and Paul Olson, lived with
them on the farm during their high school years.
Dad worked for the Pfau Brothers. He loved working on the farm. He was a hard worker with a
heart of gold that would help and do anything for anyone. Dad and Mom drove school bus for
many years. They never missed any of their children’s school activities and would often
encourage others in sports and give rides if needed.
Our home was a gathering place for many. You could find basketball games in the hayloft,
croquet in the yard, horseback riding, cards/games being played, or guitar picking and singing in
the living room. Grandsons and nephews enjoyed spending summers there. He loved sharing
his farm life, teaching them many lifelong skills. Deer hunting was an annual family event.
He was a great mechanic, there was always a vehicle in his shop being repaired or he would be
fixing on the race cars for an upcoming race.
He had a love for music and horses. He was a founder of the Tower City Saddle Club and
annually posted colors at the ND Winter Show.
October 19, 1991, he married Barbara Borg. He began farming on his own until retiring and
settling in the Valley City area. However, Dad really didn’t know what retirement meant. He
was always busy with something and still helped area farmers. He baled hay around the
country for many and could always find some project to do with his skid steer.
Dad and Barb were snowbirds in Mesa for 20 years. He continued his fixing and helping
others in their retirement community and started a band where they entertained many nights.
Dad is preceded in death by his parents, Harry and Florence Komrosky; his brother, Harry
“Leroy” and his wife, Bev; and his sister, Vallie “Sis” and her husband, Bob.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara, Valley City; his 4 children, Cindy Herk, Willow River, MN,
Jerry (Sherri) Komrosky, Moorhead, MN, Connie Komrosky, New Rockford, ND, and Lonnie
(Laurie) Komrosky, Cando, ND; 7 grandchildren & 9 great grandchildren, Dustin (Nicole) Herk,
Maya & Laurel; Cody Herk; Trista Herk, Elijah & Bella; Kristin (Cody) Mathiason, Kane & Blake;
Kraig (Carey) Komrosky, Kinley, Beckam, & Everett; Tanner (Ashley) Komrosky; and Jayden
Komrosky. He’s also survived by Barb’s children, Janie Johnson, Valley City, ND, Peggy (Dan)
Huotari, Moorhead, MN, Johnny Johnson, Wahpeton, ND, Nancy (John) Conti, California, and
Tim (Debbie) Johnson, Wahpeton, ND; and her 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.
Two of his sisters, Debbie (Rick) Seiler, Glasgow, MT, and Bonnie (Terry) Mosby, Valley City, ND
and many nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be held in the Lerud Mathias Funeral Home chapel on Monday, November 14
from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, a prayer service will begin at 7:00. The funeral service will be
11:00 AM, Tuesday, November 15 at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, Sanborn, ND. Burial will be
in Fairview Cemetery, Sanborn. The services will be live streamed then archived on his tribute
page along with his obituary at www.lerudmathias.com, where you are able to sign his online
guestbook.
