JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – For the fourth consecutive year, the #2 University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team is headed to the GPAC postseason championship after a sweep of #6 Dakota Wesleyan. Set scores finished at 25-19, 25-21, and 25-19.
The Jimmies leaned on 5th-year senior Anna Holen in the opening set as the LaMoure native put up seven kills during set one. Jamestown’s blockers came to play in set two with Darienne Johnson and Lexi Olson making a big impact on the block with Aleah Zieske to jump ahead 2-0 in the match.
In set three, Dakota Wesleyan led 5-1 before Jamestown scored 16 of the next 22 points to jump in front of the Tigers for good and clinch another spot in the GPAC championship match.
Holen had a double-double for the Jimmies, picking up 18 digs and 13 kills. Kalli Hegerle finished with a triple-double, posting 21 assists, 11 kills, and 10 digs. Zieske recorded nine kills in the final two sets while hitting .571 for Jamestown. Ellie Holen had a match-high 20 digs in the libero position.
UJ hit .261 as a team and had 14 total blocks on the night. Dakota Wesleyan fell to 22-7 on the year but the Tigers will be headed for the national tournament.
Jamestown looks for its fourth straight GPAC postseason title on Saturday afternoon at 3 PM from Newman Arena. The Jimmies will be in a rematch of last year’s GPAC title game, facing off against #4 Concordia (NE).
