MAYVILLE, N.D. (jimmiepride.com)– The University of Jamestown women’s basketball team shot just 32 percent in the first half on the way to a 74-56 loss against Mayviille State University Tuesday evening.

Hannah DeMars (SR/Grand Rapids, MN) and Audrey Rodakowski (JR/Dickinson, ND) combined to score 44 of UJ’s 56 points. DeMars finished with 26 points on 9-of-15 shooting while Rodakowski finished with 18, making 8-of-16 field goal attempts.

The rest of the Jimmie lineup hit just three of 23 shots, including one of 11 three-point attempts.

Mayville State led 17-11 after the first quarter, then closed out the second quarter on an 8-0 run to push their lead to 13 at the break.

DeMars had 11 points in the third quarter, scoring six straight to bring the Jimmies within 45-39 at the 3:33 mark. The Comets outscored UJ 10-0 in the remainder of the third to go ahead by 16 points to start the fourth quarter.

Jamestown had its highest-scoring quarter in the fourth with 17 points, but were unable to get any closer than 13 and trailed by as many as 20 after a CJ Decker jumper with 3:18 remaining.

Erin Walcker and Jordan Zrust paced the Comets with 19 points each. Decker finished with 12 and Jes Mertens 10. Zrust grabbed 14 rebounds for a double-double.

DeMars pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds for UJ, who outrebounded Mayville State 37-34. The Comets shot 44.1 percent to Jamestown’s 37 percent and made 11 three-pointers compared to two for the Jimmies.

UJ (2-1) opens conference play on Saturday at College of Saint Mary (Neb.) with game time set for 2 p.m.
