NAPOLEON, ND (NewsDakota.com) – Day 2 of the Region 3 Tournament saw the Linton-HMB Lions and the Carrington Cardinals sweeping their opponents to play in the Region Championship game.
Game 1: Carrington 3 vs #10 LaMoure-Litchville/Marion 0
The Carrington Cardinals were able to sweep their District 5 rivals in LaMoure-Litchville/Marion to advance to the Championship game (28-26, 25-16, 26-24). This was a close match from the get-go with no lead being safe for too long. The Loboes were able to come back from a seven point deficit several times but were just unable to pull of the victory in sets 1 and 3. This is Carrington’s first time in the Championship since 2020 where they fell to Linton-HMB. They rise to a record of 28-8 overall. The Loboes fall to a record of 24-10 overall and will play in the third place game.
Game 2: #1 Linton-HMB 3 vs #9 Oakes 0
The Lions of Linton-HMB came out firing against the Tornadoes and were able to control most of the match moving on with a sweep (25-14, 25-20, 25-23). The Lions relied heavily on Lacey and Shaylee Bosch for much of their scoring using their strong arms to power through Tornado blockers. The Tornadoes were able to battle back in set 3 even taking a lead late but were unable to hold on and fell on an ace from Gracie Schumacher. The Lions are back in the Region Championship game for the 3rd straight year and continue to defend their State Title. They rise to a record of 35-1 overall and will take on Carrington in a 2020 Region 3 Championship Game rematch. The Tornadoes fall to 24-8 overall and will take on LaMoure-LM in the 3rd place game.
