Horace, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The Valley City Hi-Liners came up just short against the Horace Hawks in the EDC Play In Match, ending their season. They would fall in five sets (25-19, 22-25, 25-18, 16-25, 15-13).

The Hawks came out firing in the first set but the Hi-Liners were able to keep it close throughout the early parts of the set before the Hawks went on 10 point run to make it 19-9. The Hawks would then take the set 25-19.

Valley City was not discouraged and each point would be a battle in the early goings of set 2 a set which saw 5 lead changes before the Hi-Liners took a 13-12 lead. They would slowly build that lead to 21-14 before the Hawks fought back to 23-20. The Hi-Liners would in the end take the set 25-22.

Horace came right back swinging in set 3. After three lead changes early on they would take a 11-10 lead and slowly build it up through out the rest of the set. They would take the set 25-18.

The Hi-Liners fell behind early in set 4 and it looked to be over with them down 7-1. However that lead evaporated quickly to 8-7. The Hi-Liners would eventually take the lead at 13-12 and go on several large runs and end up taking the set 25-16 to force set 5.

The entirety of set 5 was a battle for each point. The Hawks jumped out to an early 4 point lead but saw that switch to a 6-4 deficit. The Hi-Liners would hold onto the lead until 9-8 and the Hawks would eventually take the set and the match 15-13.

The Player of the game was named as Kadie Kocka from Valley City.

This is Horace’s first year making it to the EDC Tournament and they await to see who they will play in the first round.
