VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The Barnes County Water Resources District (BCWRD) is seeking input from public and private landowners with infrastructure along the Sheyenne River.

The BCWRD is completing a study of the Sheyenne River from Lake Ashtabula north of Valley City, ND, downstream to the confluence with the Red River near Harwood, ND. The BCWRD is specifically looking to identify areas where riverbank erosion and slope failures along this reach of the river are threatening public infrastructure, such as roadways and public utilities. Additionally, the District is also interested in impacts to private structures and private utilities.

Public entities and private landowners with infrastructure currently threatened or potentially impacted by erosion caused by the Sheyenne River in this area are encouraged to complete an online form that can be found here by December 1, 2022.

By completing this form, landowners will inform the BCWRD with data that will allow the District to properly inventory, categorize, and prioritize these erosion-related issues. The BCWRD will then work with other stakeholders to consider further analyses and potential remediation measures. This study is sponsored by the BCWRD with financial support provided by the North Dakota Department of Water Resources and the Red River Joint Water Resource District.
