The University of Jamestown women’s hockey team trailed Midland (Neb.) University by just one goal going into the third period, but the Warriors scored three times in the final 20 minutes as the Jimmies lost 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Wilson Arena.
Callie Maguire and Kamryn Hayhurst had first period goals as Midland led 2-0 after the first.
Annika Braun (FR/Altona, MB)’s second goal of the year came at 9:38 of the second period to cut the lead to 2-1. Crystal Wale (JR/Moose Jaw, SK) and Sam Beaulac (FR/Brentwood Bay, BC) were credited with the assists.
The Warriors countered just under five minutes later as Ally Rakowski made it 3-1 at 14:31, but the Jimmies responded with their second goal of the period. Chloe Gauthier (FR/Ste. Anne, MB)’s first collegiate goal, assisted by Kelsey Amick (FR/Mitchell, S.D.), brought UJ within a goal at 18:10.
Midland needed only 35 seconds to double their lead as the third period got underway. Rakowski’s second of the game made it 4-2, then a power play goal from Kayla Flanigan pushed the lead to 5-2 at 5:13. Kaeleigh Kachmarski finished the scoring with a goal at 12:02 of the third.
Shots were 35-23 in favor of Midland. Makenzie Gibson (FR/Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) made 29 stops and the Warriors’ Kayla Bailey finished with 21.
Jamestown is back in action Friday, November 4th at the University of Colorado before beginning a weekend series at Colorado State University Saturday and Sunday.
