SIOUX CITY, Iowa (jimmiepride.com)– The University of Jamestown women’s soccer team clinched its second straight GPAC conference title Saturday after a 1-1 draw against Briar Cliff University.
UJ needed either a win or tie against the Chargers to claim the regular-season GPAC title and the number-one seed in the conference tournament, which begins Wednesday. Jamestown will host eighth-seed Doane (Neb.) at 6 p.m.
Mady Soumare was fouled in the box less than two minutes into the contest, and Hannah Shuttleworth converted the penalty kick to give the Chargers an early 1-0 lead.
Gaby Sarkis (SO/Campbelltown, Sydney, Australia) tied the game for Jamestown in the 19th minute with an assist by Kamryn Fiscus (SR/Yakima, Wash.), and the rest of the first half ended without another shot by either side.
Content with the 1-1 scoreline, the Jimmies did not attempt a shot in the second half. Tea Pence (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) stopped four of the five shots she faced.
UJ ends the regular season 12-4-2 overall and 11-0-1 in the GPAC, extending its conference unbeaten streak to 24 matches (22-0-2) over the last two seasons.
