JAMESTOWN, N.D. (newsDakota.com) – The Spiritwood Energy Park Association (SEPA) met Friday and discussed an exclusivity agreement with Chapul Farms.

Chapul Farms designs, builds, and operates modular insect farms that turn organic waste into high-value food and agricultural products as a model of circular food systems of the future.

JSDC VP of Business Development Corry Shevlin says they recently had representatives onsite to view the Spiritwood Energy Park and a possible project.

Shevlin added the exclusivity agreement would allow Chapul Farms to conduct a feasibility study of what a potential project would bring. He says there is no specific site picked at this time.

The Chapul Farms website states, “Insects unleash the power of truly circular systems, with regenerative economic and environmental benefits. Insects are a keystone species to healthy ecosystems. Insect farming is a viable, immediately deployable ‘technology’ to close agricultural production loops.”

The exclusivity agreement was approved by the board. The board also requested a member of the Jamestown/Stutsman Development Corporation to explore a current Chapul Farms site to learn more about the business and what they do.
