VALLEY CITY, N.D. (VCPS) – Valley City Public Schools (VCPS) is continuing to move forward with a two-phased remodel and renovation plan for the school district using our COVID-19 and Building Fund dollars.
Superintendent Josh Johnson said following our capital maintenance plan (October 2021), the school district is prioritizing these key areas in phase one;
  • Air Conditioning (and supplemental heat) units installed for all classrooms, offices, and cafeterias/gyms
    • Jefferson- board approved
    • Washington- board approved
    • Junior/Senior High- bid coming soon
  • Creating one secured entrance to VCHS and consolidating three offices into one area (jr. high, sr. high, and district)
    • Designs and proposals are currently being drafted
    • Bid possibly coming in January/February 2023
    • Scope includes (demolition of the district office, create a new student parking lot, remodeled library and a few classrooms, and addition of a district garage/storage building)
The preliminary timeline for phase one is to have both of these projects completed by August 1, 2023. Phase two would begin next fall and be completed by August 1, 2024.  The priorities of the school district in phase two would include:
  • Creating secured entrances at both Jefferson and Washington Elementary Schools
    • The offices would be re-located to an area near the main “student” entrances at both schools.
Valley City Public Schools has been very appreciative of the feedback that we have received from our community over the past two years.  This remodel and renovation plan allows us to meet our current needs and still provides an opportunity for the school district to consider a new and consolidated school in the future.  If you would like more information about our proposed plans, please contact me at josh.johnson@k12.nd.us or 701.845.0483.  For your information, I’ve linked our capital maintenance plan and attached a document providing more detail on the proposed plan.
