VALLEY CITY, ND (NewsDakota.com) A match that saw Valley City denied on a set point opporunity in the first, then rally from a deficit in the second, ended in a sweep at the hands of Fargo Davies 3-0 (26-24, 25-18, 25-19) Tuesday night.
Valley City led by as many as six in the first set, then fought off a Davies rally, earning set point at 24-23. Davies stole the final three points, capturing the opening set after a slow start.
Davies took the lead in the second, also a six-point edge. The Hi-Liners responded to cut the lead to one twice, but Davies found a strong push late to take the second. The Eagles then led by three most of the way in the third, forcing a Hi-Liner timeout at 20-15, eventually capturing the set by six.
Addy Kvilvang led the Hi-Liners with a strong performance in the middle, registering seven kills and five blocks to earn Ivy Real Estate Group Player of the Match honors. Leah Laqua led Davies with 13 kills, a block and two aces. Cayla Sailer also knocked down 13 blocks.
The Hi-Liners fall to 3-15 in EDC play, still in a tie for ninth place. They face West Fargo Sheyenne Thursday.
