After being held off the scoreboard in the first period, the University of Jamestown Division 1 hockey team found the back of the net seven times in the final 40 minutes Saturday afternoon in a 7-1 win over Waldorf (Iowa) University at Wilson Arena.
The Jimmies are 12-0 against the Warriors, including 8-0 at home, since the teams first met in the 2019-20 season. Jamestown improves to 5-2-0-0 overall while Waldorf falls to 1-5-1-0.
Mario DeCapite (SO/Calgary, Alberta) got the game’s first goal at 4:10 of the second period on an assist by Brenden Vulcano (SO/Nelson, British Columbia). Just over seven minutes later, Logan Berggren (JR/Cypress, Calif.) made it 2-0 as Philippe Lessard (SO/Edmonton, Alberta) got the assist. Greg Susinski (JR/Calgary, Alberta) put Jamestown ahead 3-0 at 16:37 of the second with Justin Dumont (JR/Atlanta, Ga.) and Reid Wilson (JR/Castlegar, British Columbia) assisting.
The goals kept on coming in the final period as Jordan Baranesky (FR/Red Lake, Ontario) and Jordon Kromm (JR/Calgary, Alberta) each tallied power play goals on assists from Susinski and Brad Fortin (FR/Langley, British Columbia). Fortin also added goals 58 seconds apart, giving him his third two-goal game in his last four.
Susinski (one goal, three assists) and Fortin (two goals, two assists) each had four-point games and Baranesky ended with a goal and an assist. Jaysen MacLean (JR/Port Alberni, British Columbia) made 36 saves in between the pipes.
UJ will play an exhibition home-and-home series against NCAA Division 3 Concordia (Minn.) College beginning next Friday in Moorhead, Minn.
