Amateur radio operator Jason Linz shows scouts his antennae setup for Jamboree on the Air 2022 in Jamestown, North Dakota

JAMESTOWN, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – Several Boy Scout Troops joined in a national jamboree Saturday, Oct. 15 in Jamestown.

JOTA, or Jamboree on the Air, is the largest scouting event in the world. Held annually during the third weekend in October, JOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts and Radio Operators around the world, nation, and even in the community.

Local amateur radio operator Michelle Linz says they look forward to help local scouts attain their radio merit badge while connecting with others around the world.

Linz says they team up with other operators locally and set-up their equipment for the scouts to see, use, and ask questions.

The World Scout Bureau reported that nearly over 1 million Scouts and around 20,000 amateur radio operators participate in JOTA annually, from more than 17,000 stations in over 150 countries.

Troops from Jamestown, Bismarck and other cities participated from Gussner Elementary School.
