LINTON, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The #7 Oakes Tornadoes fell just short of pulling off the upset against the #2 team in the state, the Linton-HMB Lions. The Lions won 3 sets to 2. Set scores were 25-18, 23-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-11.
Set one was all Lions as they got off to an early lead and kept the lead throughout the entirety of the set. The Tornadoes were unable to mount much opposition and were stymied on the offensive side of the ball. Set one went to Linton 25-18.
Set two started with more of the same for Linton as they hopped out to an early 4-0 lead however, the Tornadoes were able to battle back and tie it at 11-11. The set would then continue with 7 different lead changes as no team was able to pull more then 2 points away. Linton was up 23-21 late in the set before Oakes went on a 4 point run to win the set 25-23.
Set three saw the continued battling for each and every point through out the set. There would be 10 lead changes in the set with no team able to pull away until Oakes did at the end. They would be tied at 18 before the Tornadoes went on a 7-1 run to take the set 25-19.
Set 4 was the return of the Lions. They would jump out to a 10-3 lead early on and hold onto that lead for most of the set. The Tornadoes would chip the lead back down to 4 but it was not enough as Linton won the set 25-21.
Set 5 was continued battles for each point. The Tornadoes held the lead for most of the set but ran out of steam late in the set and lost 15-11.
The Bank North Player of the Game was named Brynn Dethlefsen after a terrific defensive night with 27 digs.
