JAMESTOWN, N.D. (Parks & Rec) – Jamestown Parks and Recreation District (JPRD), Jamestown Area Youth Baseball (JAYBAL), Jamestown Outlaw Fastpitch Softball, University of Jamestown and Jamestown Public Schools are teaming up to raise the funding needed to renovate playing fields at McElroy Park.

Earlier this year JPRD secured a $911,100 grant through the ND Department of Parks and Recreation to support this project, however, the grant requires a dollar-for-dollar match.

Volunteers are working to raise the required match dollars as well as the balance needed to complete the entire renovation project.

“JAYBAL along with our partnering user groups, have been working hand-in-hand with Jamestown Parks and Recreation District throughout this process to ensure that our youth continue to have a place to grow the game of baseball and softball,” JAYBALL President Matt Perkins stated. “This project addresses all the needs of our programming, from safety, to comfort, to playability. We can’t wait for this project to become a reality for Jamestown and surrounding communities.”

This exciting project for the community of Jamestown features a complex of six new fields, bullpens, batting cages, and fan amenities including parking, paths, seating, and concessions at the current location of Al Boelke Little League Fields. The facility site is located just south of the historic Jack Brown Stadium. In addition to the new youth complex, renovations at Jack Brown Stadium will include artificial turf and updates to restrooms, locker rooms, and concession areas.

Local businesses and community members recognize the need for the project and are stepping up to help support the project. REA Hybrids and the Medicine Shoppe are two early donors that have committed to the project and helped with the upfront costs of design and planning.

Lucas Rode with REA Hybrids and Team Real Seed states “We’re committed to growing this community- from the seeds in the ground to the future for our children. Supporting this project is a way for us to do that”.
