JAMESTOWN, ND. (NewsDakota.com) – The University of Jamestown women’s volleyball team got back in the win column on Wednesday night at home with a straight-set victory over Valley City State University. All three sets ended with a 25-18 score.
UJ and VCSU battled through the first set before a pair of 3-0 runs helped the Jimmies increase the early lead. Aleah Zieske and Kalli Hegerle hammered home kills to end the first for UJ.
The second set saw Jamestown go on an 8-0 to jump in front 16-4. Valley City hung tough to climb back within seven before a Darienne Johnson kill put the Jimmies ahead 2-0 in the match.
In the third set, VCSU had an early lead of 9-7 before Hegerle and Lexi Olson put away the match to push the Jimmies to 20-2 on the year.
Bailey Nelson of VCSU had a match-high 12 kills and hit .237 to lead the Vikings. Jayla Richter had a team-high 14 digs and Sadie Hansen’s 25 assists were a match-high. VCSU hit .067 as a team and committed 20 errors on the night. Morgan Freije (Fr., Edmore, ND) was named Viking Player of the Match from Ivy Real Estate Group with a five-kill night from the right pin.
For Jamestown, Hegerle and Anna Holen finished with nine kills. Lexi Olson had eight kills, including three of the final four UJ points, and four blocks. Ellie Holen’s 25 digs were a match-high and Paige Oswald led the Jimmies with 15 assists.
Jamestown improves to 20-2 overall and has won 24 consecutive matches against VCSU. The Jimmies haven’t dropped a set to Valley in eight matches. VCSU falls to 8-13 overall and has now lost five in a row. Jamestown will be on the road this weekend, traveling to Iowa to face Briar Cliff and the College of Saint Mary while the Vikings are off until October 21st at #14 Bellevue.
