Oakes, ND (NewsDakota.com) – The #7 Oakes Tornadoes brought down the Carrington Cardinals in 4 sets on Tuesday night in a District 5 matchup. This was the last regular season District game for the Tornadoes. The set scores were 25-21, 15-25, 25-19, 25-18.
The Tornadoes started off with a big 7-2 lead to begin the match however the Cardinals would battle back and tie it 9-9. That would be the story of the first set with Oakes jumping out in front and Carrington clawing back into it. The Cardinals would take a 19-18 lead later on in the set but the Tornadoes would find another gear and finish the set 25-21.
Set two started a lot closer then set one and the teams would find themselves tied at 6 apiece in the early goings. However Carrington would go on several big runs and find themselves up 20-10. They would take the set 25-15.
Set three saw the Cardinals leading early in the set, up 9-4 after the opening salvos were fired. The Tornadoes would then battle back and, three lead changes later were up 17-14. Carrington would bring it back to with in one however Oakes would keep them at bay and take the set 25-19.
The Cardinals would come out firing in set four. They would take a 5-4 lead then expand it to 10-5 before too long to start it off. The lead was not to be as the Tornadoes turned around and went on a 12-1 run to make it 17-11. The teams would trade points back and forth for the rest of the set till Oakes won it 25-18.
The Bank North Player of the Game for Oakes was named Lily Thorpe with 6 kills, 19 assists, 2 solo blocks, 6 assisted blocks, and 12 digs.
The Player of the Game for Carrington was named Hayley Wolsky after a tremendous offensive performance.
With the win Oakes clinches at least the 2nd spot in District 5. They finish District play with a record of 5-1.
With the loss Carrington falls to a 3-2 District record with one District game left to play.
