Valley City–Valley City State University Viking defensive end Riley Gerhardt (So., Valley City, ND) has been named the North Star Athletic Association’s (NSAA) Defensive Player of the Week.

Gerhardt recorded 18 tackles, 2.5 sacks, and three tackles for loss in his effort against Dakota State University in the NSAA conference opener Saturday at Lokken Stadium.  The Vikings fell 31-17.

It’s been a stellar career for the Valley City native in a Viking uniform.  He led the team in tackles (81), sacks (10), and tackles for loss (18).  He was named Player of the Week twice last season.

The Vikings host Iowa Wesleyan this weekend.
