Valley City–Five sets does not seem to include luck for Viking volleyball.

After dropping a five-setter Saturday against 14th-ranked Bellevue Saturday, another fifth undid Valley City State in a 3-2 (25-22, 21-25, 22-25, 25-22, 15-7) at the Lewy Lee Fieldhouse Wednesday night.

Mayville State used an impressive block through the fourth and fifth to turn around a 2-1 Viking advantage.  Valley City State hit .240 through three sets, but the impressive defensive turn by the Comets forced the Vikings into errors the rest of the way, finishing at .186 for the match.

Meanwhile, a Comet speed game found some offense that the Vikings struggled to adjust to.  Ashley Pyburn (Sr., Nevis, MN) finished with 19 kills from the middle position.

Bailey Nelson (Sr., Argusville, ND) recorded a fantastic night to lead the Vikings with 19 kills, winning Ivy Real Estate Group Player of the Game honors.  Emma Lucal (Fr., Argusville, ND) had 15 and hit .297 for the match, despite being the focus of the Comet defensive attention at the finish.  The Vikings outhit, outkilled, and outdug the Comets, but came away with the loss.

The Vikings drop to 8-10, 3-3 in North Star Athletic Association play.  They travel to Aberdeen for a date with Presentation College Saturday.
