Cassandra Diaz (SR/Montebello, Calif.) and Gaby Sarkis (SO/Campbelltown, Sydney, Australia) each scored twice and three other players had goals as the University of Jamestown women’s soccer team defeated Presentation (S.D.) College 7-0 Wednesday evening at the Jimmie Turf Field.
Diaz gave the Jimmies an early lead with her fourth goal of the season, taking a pass from Ryley Bedard (SR/Long Beach, Calif.) in the seventh minute to make it 1-0.
Bedard took a corner kick in the 24th minute and played a perfect cross to Karlie Hintze (SR/Herald, Calif.), who headed the ball in for goal number two. Sarkis then put Jamestown up by three in the 28th with her third goal of the year.
In the second half, the Jimmies increased their lead from three to six in a span of four minutes and 50 seconds. Aubree Gessel (SR/Temecula, Calif.) (51st), Sarkis (53rd), and Diaz (56th) added to the goal count, and Chloe Andrews (SO/Selah, Wash.) rounded out the scoring in the 65th.
Diaz, Kamryn Fiscus (SR/Yakima, Wash.), and Kassandra Noguera (FR/Anaheim, Calif.) also recorded assists for UJ, who won their sixth straight match.
Tea Pence (FR/Hamilton, Ohio) and Anna Cole (FR/Laurel, Mont.) shared the clean sheet. Pence saved the only shot she faced while Cole made seven stops in the second half.
Shots were 32-10 in favor of Jamestown, as were shots on goal (21-8).
The Jimmies (7-4-1 overall, 6-0-0 GPAC) host Providence College of Manitoba Thursday at 2 p.m.
