VALLEY CITY, ND. (NewsDakota.com) –Consistency was elusive for the Hi-Liner volleyball team in a loss on the road at Grand Forks Central Tuesday night.
Central tipped Valley City 3-2 (21-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-22, 15-10) in a match worth two Eastern Dakota Conference (EDC) points.
Offense belonged to the Hi-Liners until the last set, with four players recording six or more kills. Abby Sather led the way with nine kills unofficially. Addy Kvilvang registered an eight kill, seven-block performance.
However, as much as offense and blocking was very effective, consistent hitting was a struggle, with the Hi-Liners unable to shake off errors throughout the match. Serve receive was also a problem, with a key run of three aces by Central turning momentum in the second set as Valley City threatened to take a two-set lead.
Faith Peterson added eight kills and three blocks, Samantha Hatcher had six kills and Tessa Olson had four blocks for the Hi-Liners.
Valley City falls to 2-13 in EDC play, now in 10th place in the league, with Wahpeton, just a match behind, coming to Valley City Tuesday. The Hi-Liners play in tournament volleyball in Fargo this weekend.
