VALLEY CITY, N.D. (NewsDakota.com) – The matchup between Valley City and Jamestown, already with a built-in rivalry factor involved, will have further significance Friday night.

Jamestown moved up two spots in the state’s 11-A QRF rankings this week following their 33-8 win over Dickinson Friday night.

The team they are chasing is Valley City.

With a dominating 40-6 win over Wahpeton on Homecoming night Friday, Valley City remains the state’s lone unbeaten 11-A team, along with holding the top QRF rating after seven weeks of football.

NDHSAA 11-AA and 11-A football changed their playoff qualification standards this season, abandoning the regional qualification concept that saw each region fill a guaranteed number of playoff berths.  This season, a team’s QRF ranking will determine if they qualify, as well as what seed they earn.

As it stands, Jamestown and Dickinson would represent the west region.  The rest of the playoff positions would belong to east-region teams.

This week’s rankings saw Jamestown move up from fourth to second.  Grand Forks Red River moved from fifth to third with their commanding 38-6 win over Fargo North.

Fargo South, Fargo North, Wahpeton, Dickinson and Grand Forks Central round out the top eight positions.

Valley City controls it’s own destiny, with a trip to Central still to come on October 14th.   The Hi-Liners host Fargo South October 21st.  A Jamestown win would likely vault them back to the top position, and they would likely win the top seed by running the table with wins over West Fargo Horace and Fargo North.

Grand Forks Red River is an unknown factor.  They lost to Jamestown in week two.  With their win over North Friday, a Jamestown win over Valley City, followed by a Jamestown loss to North would create a scenario not easily read.  Red River does not play Valley City or Fargo South this season.
